The Secretary of Batam City, Jefridin, has announced an initiative to involve Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the ongoing development efforts, enhancing their role in the city’s economic expansion.
As part of its strategy to bolster economic growth, Batam’s city administration is focusing on enhancing infrastructure and human resources, providing SMEs with opportunities to contribute and benefit from these developments.
The initiative specifically targets non-fishermen entrepreneurs in Batam, offering them training to leverage the city’s developmental projects for business growth.
Fishermen are not left out; they receive separate support in business tools and funding to help stabilize and grow their operations.

Entrepreneurs receive extensive training in marketing strategies, financial management, and digital technology use to improve their competitiveness in both local and international markets.
The program also focuses on providing legal business certifications such as the Business Identification Number (NIB) and halal certificates, ensuring businesses meet national standards.

Through the Entrepreneurship Roadshow and other events, Batam’s SMEs gain access to expert advice and networking opportunities to expand their business reach and increase revenue.
The proactive steps taken by Batam to integrate SMEs into its urban development not only enhance the city’s economic landscape but also present potential investment and partnership opportunities. This initiative serves as a model of how cities can support SME growth in conjunction with urban development.
The Batam city government has launched a comprehensive initiative to engage local SMEs in the city’s development projects, providing them with training, support, and opportunities to grow alongside the city’s infrastructure expansion. This move aims to strengthen the local economy and attract more investors and tourists to the region.
