Night patrols target industrial zones, ports, and public hotspots to prevent street crime and premanism
The Riau Islands Police have stepped up Blue Light Patrol operations in Batam, deploying precision motorcycle units to safeguard key areas and suppress criminal activity during the night.
On May 12, 2025, the Riau Islands Police’s Directorate of Samapta launched Blue Light Motorcycle Patrols across strategic zones in Batam, including Jalan Gajah Mada, PT Tunas Industrial, Cipta Land, Hotel 01, and PT Sarana Industrial Point. These areas were chosen for their high night-time activity and potential criminal risk.
All patrol units operated with blue strobe lights activated, a visual indicator of police presence and an early deterrent against criminal activity.
Blue Light Method Reinforces Visibility and Safety
The Blue Light Patrol strategy is designed to enhance police visibility and reduce street-level offenses. “The blue lights signal that we’re here and ready to respond,” said Police Commissioner Zahwani Pandra Arsyad, spokesperson for the Riau Islands Police.
In addition to industrial zones, officers monitored ports, public spaces, and residential areas, reinforcing police presence and anticipating potential law violations.
Commissioner Zahwani reaffirmed the force’s zero-tolerance stance on street crime and thuggery. “Any form of premanism that disrupts the comfort of residents or businesses will be handled decisively,” he said.
He emphasized that maintaining order is crucial not only for public confidence but also for sustaining Batam’s role as a growing hub for commerce and investment.
Night Patrols Yield Calm, Secure Conditions
The latest patrols confirmed that Batam remained safe and peaceful throughout the night. No significant criminal disturbances or preman activities were recorded along the patrol route.
Authorities confirmed that these patrols will continue regularly as part of a long-term public safety initiative across the city.
The Riau Islands Police encouraged Batam residents to take an active role in community safety. Residents are advised to use Call Center 110 or the Polri Super Apps to report suspicious activity and access integrated police services.
Such cooperation is essential to strengthening neighborhood safety and ensuring timely police responses.
With visible, coordinated Blue Light Patrols, the Riau Islands Police are setting a firm tone against street crime and disorder in Batam.
