Community-driven environmental action unites businesses, schools, and volunteers across Batam
As global attention focuses on climate action and ocean conservation, Batam demonstrated how local collaboration can create measurable environmental impact. On June 6, 2026, Rexvin Group, as the main sponsor, joined forces with BatamOn Global Group through the Tanjung Uma Empowerment Program (TUEP) to organize a large-scale environmental initiative in Tanjung Uma, bringing together volunteers, students, businesses, and community members in a shared commitment to a cleaner and more sustainable future.
World Environment Day is the United Nations’ largest global platform for environmental awareness and action, observed annually on June 5 and led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The 2026 observance focuses on climate action, emphasizing the urgent need for communities, governments, and businesses to respond to environmental challenges. Likewise, World Oceans Day, observed annually on June 8, promotes the sustainable management and protection of marine ecosystems worldwide. Recent United Nations assessments have highlighted increasing pressure on oceans from pollution, climate change, and marine debris, making local conservation efforts more important than ever.
Against this backdrop, Batam’s coastal community of Tanjung Uma became the center of a meaningful environmental movement that demonstrated how local action can contribute to global sustainability goals.
Turning Global Awareness Into Local Action
The environmental initiative began at 7:00 a.m. WIB on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Pantai Tanjung in Tanjung Uma, Batam. The event opened with a traditional silat performance, reflecting the community’s cultural heritage while symbolizing the balance between preserving local traditions and protecting the natural environment. Following the opening ceremony, volunteers gathered for a coordinated coastal cleanup effort aimed at reducing marine debris and restoring the cleanliness of the shoreline.

A total of 151 volunteers participated in the cleanup, representing companies, community organizations, students, and local residents. Working together for approximately ninety minutes, they collected 917 kilograms of inorganic waste, consisting primarily of plastic waste and marine litter. The result highlights both the scale of coastal waste challenges and the impact collective action can achieve within a short period.
Rexvin Group’s Commitment Beyond Development
As one of Batam’s growing property developers, Rexvin Group’s involvement extended beyond sponsorship. The company said the initiative reflects its commitment to sustainable development and community engagement. By supporting environmental initiatives that directly involve local communities, Rexvin Group demonstrated that economic growth and environmental stewardship can progress together rather than compete with one another.
The cleanup activity aligns with broader global concerns regarding marine pollution. According to recent United Nations findings, oceans worldwide continue to face severe pressure from plastic pollution, biodiversity loss, and climate-related impacts. Local actions such as shoreline cleanups play an important role in preventing waste from entering marine ecosystems and causing long-term environmental damage. Through its participation, Rexvin Group contributed to a practical solution while encouraging wider public awareness of environmental responsibility.
Education and Creativity as Tools for Change
Environmental sustainability was not limited to waste collection. During the event, 19 participants joined a creative recycling workshop that transformed used plastic sachets into keychains. The activity introduced practical applications of the reduce, reuse, and recycle principles while demonstrating that plastic waste can be converted into products with functional and economic value.

At the same time, environmental education sessions were conducted at SDN 011 Lubuk Baja. A total of 230 students participated in interactive storytelling activities designed to teach environmental awareness in an engaging and age-appropriate way. Students learned about proper waste management, reducing single-use plastics, and protecting marine ecosystems. By focusing on children, the program aimed to foster long-term behavioral change and build environmental consciousness among future generations.
BatamOn Asia and TUEP: Linking Growth With Community Impact
The initiative reflects the broader mission of BatamOn Asia and its Tanjung Uma Empowerment Program. BatamOn Asia operates as a business and talent solutions company that helps position Batam as a globally competitive nearshore talent hub serving regional markets, particularly Singapore. Beyond workforce development and business services, the company has integrated social impact into its long-term strategy through TUEP.
Unlike traditional corporate social responsibility programs, TUEP adopts a holistic approach to community development. The program simultaneously addresses environmental sustainability, education, and economic empowerment. Its environmental initiatives include coastal cleanups, waste management education, and marine conservation activities. Educational efforts focus on free English classes, vocational training, and partnerships with schools, while economic programs support local entrepreneurs and practical skill development.

This integrated model recognizes that environmental challenges are often connected to educational and economic realities. By addressing these issues together, TUEP seeks to strengthen community resilience while supporting sustainable growth in Tanjung Uma.
Building a Model for Sustainable Collaboration
One notable outcome of the June 6 initiative was the level of participation across multiple sectors. Businesses, educational institutions, community groups, volunteers, and local residents worked side by side toward a common objective. The enthusiasm displayed throughout the event highlighted the growing recognition that environmental challenges cannot be solved by a single organization acting alone.
The event concluded at approximately 12:00 p.m. WIB, leaving behind not only a cleaner shoreline but also stronger relationships among stakeholders committed to sustainability. The successful collection of nearly one ton of waste, combined with educational outreach reaching hundreds of young people, demonstrates the effectiveness of collaborative environmental action at the community level.
The initiative highlights growing efforts within Batam to balance economic development, environmental stewardship, and community well-being. Initiatives such as this showcase how local organizations are actively working to preserve coastal ecosystems while empowering residents through education and sustainable development. For international investors, business partners, and travelers, the program reflects a growing commitment within Batam to responsible growth and long-term sustainability.
The collaboration between Rexvin Group, BatamOn Global Group, TUEP, volunteers, schools, and local communities serves as a practical example of how environmental responsibility can be embedded into everyday development efforts. As global conversations around climate action and ocean conservation continue to intensify, local initiatives like this remind us that meaningful change often begins at the community level.
