MCBA intercepts three illegal shipments of pork and chicken lacking permits and certificates.

The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) has thwarted attempts to smuggle over RM1.3 million worth of frozen pork and chicken into Malaysia through Pasir Gudang Port.

Three Containers Seized

Between September 17 and 24, MCBA officers intercepted three separate shipments containing unpermitted frozen meat products at Pasir Gudang Port. The total haul weighed more than 80,000kg and was valued at RM1,349,351.

Pork Shipment From Multiple Countries

The first operation on September 17 uncovered 27,816kg of frozen pork products worth RM898,919. The container included 26,466kg of pork skin on jowls from the United States, 330kg of suckling pigs from Vietnam, and 1,020kg of goose feet from Poland.

Chicken Shipments From Thailand

On September 18, enforcement officers seized 26,856kg of boneless chicken breast from Thailand worth RM228,276. A similar container, weighing 26,136kg and valued at RM222,156, was intercepted on September 24.

Lack of Permits and Certificates

According to MCBA, all shipments were brought in without Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services (Maqis) import permits and health certificates. These documents are mandatory to ensure food safety and compliance with agricultural regulations.

Legal Consequences for Offenders

The cases are being investigated under Section 11(1) of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011. Offenders, if convicted, face fines of up to RM100,000, imprisonment of up to six years, or both.

The foiled smuggling attempts highlight the critical role of border enforcement in protecting Malaysia’s food supply chain and ensuring public health. With increasing scrutiny on illegal imports, the MCBA’s actions serve as a reminder of the serious penalties awaiting offenders.
