Growing Travel Demand Boosts Batam’s Maritime Sector

Passenger traffic at Batam’s ferry terminals surged to 8.6 million in 2024, marking a 7% year-on-year increase. This growth was driven by rising international and domestic travel, with ferry terminals at Batam Center and Sekupang handling the bulk of passengers.

In 2024, 8.6 million passengers traveled through Batam’s ferry terminals, reflecting a 7% increase from the previous year, according to Dendi Gustinandar, Director of BP Batam’s Port Business Unit. The international ferry terminals in Batam Center and Sekupang accounted for 4.8 million passengers, while domestic terminals handled 3.85 million.

The rise in maritime traffic was fueled by increased foreign arrivals, particularly from Singapore and Malaysia, alongside steady domestic travel growth. The data underscores Batam’s importance as a key regional transport hub, with ongoing infrastructure improvements enhancing connectivity.
