Batam’s South Ring Road Project to Start in 2026
Batam Government (Pemko Batam) is planning a major infrastructure project to construct a 9.94 km South Ring Road connecting key locations across the city. The project, estimated to cost Rp130.78 billion (S$10.87 million), will link Simpang Sungai Pancur Piayu, Simpang Teluk Lengung, and Simpang Jasinta Punggur. Detailed planning will begin in 2025, with construction expected to start in 2026.
Detailed Engineering Design (DED) to Begin in 2025
According to Suhar, Head of Batam’s Public Works Department, the project is currently in the planning stage, with the DED included in the revised 2025 budget. Construction is expected to span four years, starting in 2026, following the installation of a new mayor in February 2025.
Project Breakdown and Estimated Costs
The South Ring Road is divided into three sections:
– Section 1: Simpang Sungai Pancur to Kampung Bagan (3.62 km) – dual-lane road expansion and paving, with costs estimated at Rp31.1 billion (S$2.58 million).
– Section 2: Kampung Bagan to Simpang Teluk Lengung (2.25 km) – includes a 50m bridge and paving, requiring Rp56.42 billion (S$4.68 million).
– Section 3: Simpang Teluk Lengung to Simpang Jasinta Punggur (4.09 km) – paving and road structure improvements, costing Rp34.56 billion (S$2.87 million).

The road will serve as an alternative route, reducing dependency on Batam Center for commuters traveling between Batuaji, Sagulung, Punggur, and Hang Nadim Airport. This development aims to cut travel times, enhance goods distribution, and offer alternative routes during road closures on main arteries.
The project is expected to ease congestion, improve connectivity, and strengthen Batam’s position as a key logistics hub. “The South Ring Road will significantly reduce travel time and enhance mobility, benefiting both locals and businesses,” Suhar noted.
With an overall timeline of four years, the project demonstrates Batam’s commitment to sustainable urban development. The estimated budget of Rp130.78 billion (S$10.87 million) has been deemed feasible, with funding spread over multiple fiscal years.
