Batam, July 27, 2024 – In a concerted effort to commemorate World Mangrove Day, PT BatamOn Global Group and PT Idros Services spearheaded a significant environmental initiative in Tanjung Uma, Lubuk Baja, Batam. The event, which took place on Saturday, saw robust participation from the local community and various organizations.
PT BatamOn Global Group, a prominent HR management company based in Batam, showcased its commitment to environmental sustainability through the Tanjung Uma Empowerment Program, an initiative launched in March 2023. This year’s World Mangrove Day event was a key component of this program.
The event drew approximately 250 volunteers from a diverse array of companies, institutions, universities, schools, and community groups. Health volunteers were also in attendance, contributing to the success of the day-long activities.

Significant backing came from PT Idros Services and other collaborative partners. Setiawan Hermanto, Assistant Base Manager of PT Idros Services, highlighted the company’s dedication to environmental causes, emphasizing the importance of the mangrove planting initiative in one of Batam’s most ecologically vulnerable areas. “Our company is deeply committed to maintaining the sustainability of our planet. Today’s mangrove planting in Tanjung Uma is a testament to that commitment. This area is crucial due to its impact on Batam’s overall ecosystem. We hope the community will learn from this and spread the message. Real commitment is needed from everyone, both individuals and companies, wherever we are,” he stated.
Tanjung Uma was chosen for this initiative due to its complex socio-economic and environmental challenges. The day’s theme, “Save Our Mangroves,” encompassed a series of activities, including mangrove planting along the Tanjung Uma beach and a beach cleanup that resulted in the removal of 1,031 kg of trash. The event also featured storytelling sessions with environmental themes and provided free health checks for residents.
Ahmadi Awang, Secretary of Tanjung Uma Village Office, expressed gratitude for the efforts of BatamOn and PT Idros Services. “We, the government of Tanjung Uma Village, are thankful for the mangrove planting in our area, particularly in RT 2/RW 10. This activity will enhance community environmental awareness. The remaining mangrove forests in Tanjung Uma Urban Village are limited to the areas along RT 2, RW 10 and RT 1, RW 11,” he noted during the event.
