Republic pledges funds for relief as ceasefire talks in Washington seek to avert renewed violence.

Singapore has committed financial support to Jordan’s humanitarian initiative for Lebanon, targeting urgent civilian needs while urging all parties to uphold and extend the fragile ceasefire.

Singapore’s Contribution And Purpose
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on April 23 that Singapore will contribute US$100,000, about S$128,000, to Jordan’s Humanitarian Assistance Initiative for Lebanon, with funds directed to medical supplies, food aid, shelter and hygiene support for civilians affected by the conflict.

Humanitarian Situation In Lebanon
Lebanon’s Health Ministry reported on April 14 that more than one million people have been displaced since the war began and at least 2,300 people have been killed by Israeli strikes, figures that underscore the scale of need facing hospitals, relief agencies and host communities already under economic strain.

Singapore’s Call For Ceasefire And Protection
In its statement, MFA urged all parties to respect the existing ceasefire, protect civilians and civilian infrastructure, and engage seriously in negotiations for a lasting resolution, framing humanitarian support and diplomatic pressure as parallel tracks needed to reduce suffering and stabilise the situation.

Ceasefire Talks In Washington
On April 23, Israeli and Lebanese representatives held a new round of talks in Washington, where Beirut sought a one month extension of the current ceasefire that is due to expire on Sunday, reflecting fears that any breakdown could trigger a fresh wave of displacement and casualties.

Wider Significance For Small States
Singapore’s targeted pledge and public stance align with its broader foreign policy emphasis on international law, civilian protection and multilateral responses to crises, showing how smaller states can support front line humanitarian efforts while advocating for negotiated outcomes in conflicts that destabilise global and regional security.

By backing Jordan’s relief initiative and calling for an extended ceasefire, Singapore joins wider efforts to ease Lebanon’s humanitarian crisis and prevent renewed escalation. Indonesians and Singaporeans share an interest in a more stable Middle East, where reduced violence can lower global energy shocks and humanitarian pressures, and where sustained diplomacy keeps open the path toward political solutions that protect civilians and uphold international norms.
