New Industrial Training Institute Planned for Batam by 2025

In a significant move to enhance industrial human resources, the Ministry of Industry is set to establish a new Industrial Training Center (BDI) in Batam, aimed at catering to the increasing demand for skilled labor in the region.

The Ministry of Industry is responding to Batam’s growing industrial sector, which employs over 169,000 workers, by planning a dedicated Industrial Training Center (BDI) to foster relevant skills and support industry demands.

The BDI in Batam is slated for development between 2025 and 2028, focusing on critical areas such as metalwork, machinery, aeronautics, IT, electronics, and shipbuilding to align with local industry needs.

The project is a collaborative effort involving the Ministry of Industry, BP Batam, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, emphasizing the strategic importance of Batam as an industrial hub.

An area of 8,765 square meters has been allocated for the BDI, with detailed planning for land revitalization and academic proposals underway to ensure the institute meets global standards.

The BDI will offer ‘3-in-1’ training programs, which will provide participants with skills training, certification, and potential job placements, enhancing their career prospects in various industrial sectors.

Seven BDIs across Indonesia have trained over 32,714 participants in 2023, indicating the program’s extensive reach and impact on national workforce development.
