In a decisive move to enhance public comfort and safety, Batam’s Department of Social Services launched a targeted operation on July 6, 2024, against street performers including ‘manusia silver’ and street clowns who have been causing disturbances across the city.

The operation unfolded across three key intersections in Batam—Simpang Ikan Bawal, Simpang Laluan Madani, and Simpang Kara—highlighting the city’s commitment to maintaining social order and public safety.

The sweep began at 11:30 AM WIB, focusing on areas notorious for gatherings of street performers, as identified by previous surveys and public reports.

Led by Husen Siregar, Head of Technical Social Affairs at Batam’s Social Services Department, the initiative deployed the Rapid Response Team (TRC) to efficiently manage and guide these performers away from public disruptions.

Those rounded up during the operation were taken to UPT Nilam Suri for further counseling and support, ensuring they receive proper guidance and assistance towards more acceptable livelihood options.
