The Riau Islands Police have successfully intercepted a significant smuggling operation involving 1,500 clear lobster seeds (BBL), aimed at illegal export from Batam, Indonesia, arresting one individual linked to the case.
This operation is part of an ongoing crackdown on wildlife and marine life trafficking in the region, highlighting the extensive routes and methods employed by smugglers.
The lobster seeds, intended for illegal export, were seized at Sekupang Port, Batam, concealed inside a red suitcase by the suspect, identified only as HK.
The smuggling route extended from Pelabuhan Ratu in West Java through multiple provinces including Lampung and Palembang, to Batam, illustrating the complexity and length of the trafficking chain.
HK was arrested and is potentially facing up to eight years in prison and a fine of up to SGD 203,400 under Indonesia’s stringent fisheries laws, emphasizing the severe penalties for such crimes.
Similar to drug trafficking operations, the lobster seed smuggling involved multiple handlers at various stages, complicating law enforcement efforts to dismantle these networks.

The confiscated lobster seeds are currently housed at the Batam Fish Quarantine Office, where plans are underway for their safe release back into their natural habitat.
