The ambitious Batam-Bintan bridge project in Indonesia is set to catalyze regional investment and development, with a substantial IDR 68 billion ($5.72 million) allocated from the national budget for essential geological surveys.
The bridge connecting Batam and Bintan is poised to significantly enhance economic and infrastructural development in the region, with the Indonesian government investing heavily in preliminary studies to ensure its feasibility and durability.
The Government of Indonesia, through the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, has allocated IDR 68 billion for a comprehensive soil depth survey essential for the bridge’s construction, ensuring a solid foundation for the long-term infrastructure project.

Conducted by PT Offshore Work Indonesia, the survey spans six months and targets 17 borehole sites across the proposed bridge route. This will help outline the bridge’s engineering needs and address potential geological challenges.
Governor Ansar Ahmad views the bridge as a pivotal element for accelerating investment across the Kepulauan Riau Province. The bridge is expected to unite administrative and economic activities between Batam and Bintan, fostering a more integrated regional economy.
Besides easing transportation, the bridge will also support essential utilities such as electricity, water, and gas, which are planned to be integrated into the bridge’s infrastructure, enhancing the islands’ connectivity and resilience.

With 10 to 12 consortia already expressing interest in the project, the completion of the bridge is anticipated to unlock new business opportunities, enhancing the attractiveness of the region to both domestic and international investors.
