The City Council of Batam has conducted a thorough evaluation of the municipal government’s performance for the year 2023, highlighting significant achievements and areas needing improvement based on the Accountability Report.

The evaluation process included field inspections, recess sessions, and reviews of the city’s accountability reports, leading to an in-depth assessment of the government’s success in reaching its economic and social goals.

Batam’s economy grew by 7.04% in 2023, surpassing the targeted 5.91%, reflecting a positive trend in the city’s economic management and strategic planning.

While the open unemployment rate decreased to 8.14% from 9.56%, the targeted reduction in poverty levels was not fully achieved, indicating areas where focused interventions are needed.

The DPRD has recommended improvements in development planning, budgeting, local law formulation, and the refinement of strategic policies by the municipal head to better align with Batam’s vision of becoming a modern, prosperous, world-class city.

Recommendations from the council include economic diversification, enhancing workforce skills, poverty alleviation, developing a startup ecosystem, and controlling inflation.
