Indonesian students have once again raised their country’s flag high on the international stage by clinching five titles at the Singapore Amazing Flying Machine Competition (SAFMC) 2024. Teams from the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) and the Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) outperformed hundreds of competitors from Singapore and Indonesia in a dazzling display of technological innovation and teamwork.
The SAFMC, held from March 20 to April 6, 2024, at the Singapore University of Technology and Design, is a prestigious international competition that challenges students to design, build, and fly drones across various categories. The event is supported by the Singapore Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and encourages the exploration of aerial robotics among school and university students globally.
Team Aksantara from ITB secured the International Champion title in the D1 Man-Machine category, impressing judges with their glove-controlled drones designed for indoor tasks.

ITS claimed the second place in the D2 Multi-Machine category and fourth place in D1, with their AI-powered drones designed to autonomously cooperate on assigned tasks, showcasing advanced programming and teamwork.
Other Indonesian teams also made their mark, with Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) and Universitas Gadjah Mada winning third places in the D2 and D1 categories, respectively, further emphasizing Indonesia’s prowess in the field.
Preparation and perseverance were key, as teams from ITS and ITB dedicated months of rigorous training, often working from dusk till dawn to perfect their entries for both D1 and D2 categories.
