In a surprising twist, a young couple in Batam is detained for trafficking drugs, revealing intentions to use the profits for their wedding expenses.
The Drug Investigation Unit of Polda Kepri unearthed a significant drug operation involving 561 grams of methamphetamine and 149 ecstasy tablets within the confines of Batam City.
Following a tip-off, authorities apprehended a suspect, JU, for distributing methamphetamine. During the arrest on 26th September, officers discovered a stash of the drug amounting to 561 grams on him.
A subsequent operation led to the detention of a couple, SU (28) and SH (27), on 7th September at the parking lot of Hotel Pacific, Batuampar. The initial search resulted in the discovery of 7 ecstasy pills with SU.
Further investigation at SH’s residence in Baloi Permai uncovered an additional 142 ecstasy tablets. The couple confessed their intention to sell the drugs to supplement their wedding expenses.
The ecstasy was reportedly sourced from an associate in Medan, Sumatra, delivered via courier services. This associate remains at large, with a wanted status.
Following a court order, the seized narcotics were destroyed. The ecstasy pills were blended and discarded into a septic tank, while the methamphetamine was boiled and mixed with a cleaning solution before disposal.
The ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking in Batam underscores the commitment of Indonesian authorities to ensure safety and security.
