Batam City kickstarts its comprehensive long-term development agenda, spanning 2025-2045, emphasizing active youth involvement for a sustainable future.
The blueprint for Batam’s long-term development is currently being sketched at the Mayor’s Office, with active participation from a wide array of stakeholders.
The young generation, particularly those affiliated with the Student Executive Body (BEM), plays an instrumental role in this planning, receiving substantial support from Deputy Chair II of the Batam Regional People’s Representative Council, Muhammad Yunus Muda.
Mayor Rudi and Deputy Chair II Muhammad Yunus Muda highlighted the significance of integrating the youth’s perspective. Noting that by 2045, about 70% of Batam’s residents will be in their prime working age, the plan’s formulation should reflect their aspirations.
Rudi remains optimistic about the youth’s potential in shaping Batam’s future. “Without input from the youth, we’d face challenges. I invite them to voice their development desires for Batam,” he stated.

Beyond the youth, the planning procedure incorporates a myriad of parties including government representatives, academics, legislators, entrepreneurs, and community leaders. A call to action was made for the Batam Regional Planning and Development Research Agency (Bapelitbangda) to gather and formulate apt contributions for the city’s growth until 2045.
Several pivotal construction projects in Batam were outlined, such as the Hang Nadim Batam Airport, Batu Ampar Port, main roads, and a national strategic project on Rempang Island.
Batam’s proactive planning, with an emphasis on youth involvement, signals the city’s commitment to sustainable growth. For neighboring countries like Singapore, this could mean more enhanced business, tourism, and cultural ties, given Batam’s strategic proximity and developmental aspirations.
Batam launches its vision for 2025-2045, underlining youth engagement. With a focus on a sustainable future, the blueprint encompasses diverse stakeholder viewpoints, emphasizing pivotal infrastructural projects to enhance the city’s prospects.
