US-backed investment launches in Kabil with plans for semiconductors, AI manufacturing, and batteries.

Batam is expanding its ambitions in high-tech manufacturing as an investment involving US companies begins taking shape in Kabil, combining semiconductor development, silica downstream processing, and other advanced industrial technologies.

US$500 Million Investment Begins in Batam
US companies Tynergy Technology Group and Essence Global are involved in an initial US$500 million investment at the Wiraraja I Industrial Estate in Kabil, Batam. Indonesian media have reported varying rupiah equivalents, ranging from approximately Rp8 trillion to Rp9.07 trillion, depending on the exchange rate used. The development forms part of the WIRARAJA GESEIP National Strategic Project.

Initial Project Targets 1,000 Jobs
The first stage is being developed on approximately three hectares of land in Kabil and is projected to create around 1,000 jobs. Akhmad Makruf Maulana, president director of WIRARAJA GESEIP and chairman of the Indonesian Industrial Estate Association, described the project as the beginning of the previously committed US foreign investment.

Semiconductors Join Broader Technology Plans
The investment is intended to support a broader high-technology industrial ecosystem, including downstream processing of silica sand, AI-powered smart factories, potential semiconductor development and sodium-ion battery assembly. The wider WIRARAJA GESEIP project also incorporates renewable-energy infrastructure, with the companies pursuing an integrated industrial model connecting upstream processing and downstream manufacturing.

Washington Agreement Moves Into Construction
The Batam development follows a Joint Venture Agreement signed in Washington, D.C., on February 18, 2026, involving Tynergy Technology Group and Essence Global, with President Prabowo Subianto witnessing the agreement. Groundbreaking in Kabil marks the transition from the investment commitment toward physical development of the first facilities.

Expansion Planned Beyond Kabil
The Kabil facility is intended as an initial stage of a larger industrial development, with further expansion planned at the WIRARAJA GESEIP area on Galang Island. BP Batam has approved plans involving 851 hectares there, although additional business planning, infrastructure preparation, and government coordination are still required before the wider development proceeds.

The US$500 million investment could strengthen Batam’s transition toward higher-value manufacturing while creating new employment and technology-transfer opportunities for Indonesian workers. For Singapore, Batam’s growing semiconductor and advanced-manufacturing base is particularly relevant because of the two cities’ geographic proximity and their roles within regional industrial and supply-chain networks.
