Strong investment, digital infrastructure and connectivity reinforce Batam’s position as a major growth center.
Batam recorded strong economic momentum in the first half of 2026, with investment reaching around Rp40 trillion as the city attracted growing interest from technology, infrastructure and international businesses.
Investment Reaches Rp40 Trillion
Batam recorded approximately Rp40 trillion in realized investment during the first half of 2026. Batam Mayor and BP Batam Head Amsakar Achmad said the figure reflected strong business confidence in the city as an investment destination and economic growth center.
Economy Expands 7.28 Percent
Batam’s economy grew 7.28 percent in the first half of 2026, exceeding the 6.76 percent growth recorded for full-year 2025. Amsakar said the combination of rising investment and stronger economic performance showed that Batam’s economic foundations were continuing to strengthen.
AI and Data Center Investment Gains Attention
Technology investment is becoming increasingly prominent in Batam. Amsakar highlighted plans for the Nvidia DSX AI Factory campus, being developed by Australian AI infrastructure company Firmus Technologies through a strategic partnership with Nvidia and DayOne. The planned facility will have a 360-megawatt capacity and is targeted to begin operations in the first quarter of 2027.
Batam Ranks Sixth in Port Connectivity Growth
Batam’s investment momentum is also supported by stronger maritime connectivity. According to UN Trade and Development, or UNCTAD, Batam ranked sixth among the world’s ports with the highest growth in the Port Liner Shipping Connectivity Index in the second quarter of 2026. Amsakar said improved infrastructure and connectivity were strengthening Batam’s position along international trade routes.
Government Seeks Wider Community Benefits
Amsakar stressed that investment and economic growth should translate into tangible benefits for residents rather than remain headline figures. He said growth should benefit residents through job creation, the development of local businesses, improved public services and infrastructure development.
Batam’s Rp40 trillion investment realization and 7.28 percent economic growth underline the city’s expanding role in Indonesia’s investment landscape, particularly in technology and digital infrastructure. For Indonesians, the key measure will be how this growth translates into employment and stronger local businesses. For Singaporean companies and investors, Batam’s improving connectivity and proximity continue to support opportunities for cross-border economic activity.
