BP Batam says production capacity remains insufficient to meet demand

The clean water crisis in Batam continues to affect multiple neighbourhoods, with residents in several areas still depending on tanker truck deliveries due to limited production capacity.

Several Areas Still Affected
Residents in Batu Merah, Tanjung Sengkuang, Bengkong, Baloi and surrounding areas are still experiencing disruptions in clean water supply.

The Water Distribution
In these locations, water distribution continues to rely heavily on tanker trucks.

Production Capacity Not Yet Sufficient
Director of Land Control at BP Batam and Task Force Head Denny Tondano said existing water treatment plants have not been able to fully meet customer demand.

Water Supply Location
“Water supply for Batu Merah, Tanjung Sengkuang, Batu Ampar, Baloi and surrounding areas still depends on tanker trucks. Production capacity is not yet sufficient, resulting in shortages at several distribution points,” he said on Feb 16.

Ongoing Distribution Challenges
The limited capacity has created imbalances in supply, particularly in densely populated areas.

Authorities are continuing efforts to manage distribution while seeking longer-term solutions to increase water production and stabilise supply.

Batam’s ongoing clean water shortage highlights infrastructure limitations amid growing demand. With several districts still relying on tanker trucks, boosting treatment plant capacity remains a critical priority to ensure stable and equitable water access across the city.
