Certification strengthens patient trust and sets new benchmarks for inclusive healthcare services

A milestone in Indonesia’s healthcare sector has been reached in Batam, marking a new chapter in patient-centered and inclusive medical services.

A First for the Riau Islands
Rumah Sakit Badan Pengusahaan Batam, widely known as RSBP Batam, officially received its halal certification from the Institute for the Assessment of Food, Drugs, and Cosmetics of the Indonesian Ulema Council or LPPOM MUI of the Riau Islands Province on Monday, January 5, 2026. This achievement makes RSBP Batam the first hospital in the province to obtain halal certification, setting a precedent for healthcare institutions across the region.

Formal Recognition by LPPOM MUI
The certificate was formally handed over to RSBP Batam Director, dr. Tanto Budiharto, by LPPOM MUI Riau Islands Director Khairuddin Nasution, BAc SE, accompanied by Drs. Ali Chozin, Apt, MSi, who serves as an expert staff member of LPPOM MUI Kepri. The ceremony underscored the collaborative effort between the hospital and religious authorities to uphold recognized halal standards.

Commitment Beyond Administration

According to dr. Tanto Budiharto, the certification represents more than an administrative milestone. He emphasized that it reflects the hospital’s commitment to ensuring that all service processes meet established standards, offering patients and their families a stronger sense of safety, comfort, and peace of mind. The certification aligns with RSBP Batam’s mission to deliver high-quality, trustworthy healthcare services.

Support from BP Batam Leadership
The success of the certification process was closely linked to the strong commitment of BP Batam’s leadership, particularly the Deputy for General Services led by Ariastuty Sirait. Under this coordination, RSBP Batam has consistently prioritized service excellence, patient comfort, and continuous improvement in public healthcare delivery.

A Rigorous and Structured Process

The halal certification journey began in July 2025 and involved a comprehensive, structured process. Key stages included the formation of the RSBP Halal Team, a kick-off meeting on July 31, 2025, internal socialization programs, halal supervisor training, fulfillment of required standards, documentation preparation, management review, and external audits. Each stage was conducted to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.

Continuous Guidance and Oversight
Throughout the process, LPPOM MUI Riau Islands provided ongoing guidance and assistance to RSBP Batam. This continuous oversight ensured that every requirement was met according to national halal standards, reinforcing transparency and accountability within the hospital’s operational framework.

Strengthening Public Confidence
With the halal certificate now secured, RSBP Batam is expected to further strengthen public trust and enhance its reputation as a professional, inclusive, and patient-oriented healthcare provider. The certification is also seen as a strategic step in improving service quality while respecting cultural and religious values.

The halal certification of RSBP Batam reflects a broader shift toward inclusive and standardized healthcare services in Indonesia. For Indonesians and Singaporeans who rely on Batam’s medical facilities, this development enhances confidence in cross-border healthcare choices and highlights Batam’s growing role as a trusted regional medical hub.
