Major road upgrades aim to boost industrial connectivity and ease traffic congestion

Batam is set for a significant infrastructure upgrade as BP Batam moves to strengthen road connectivity supporting industrial growth and urban mobility.

Strengthening Batam’s Road Network
BP Batam has allocated a total budget of Rp244.8 billion for the construction and development of strategic road infrastructure in 2026. The initiative is designed to improve connectivity across key industrial zones while easing traffic congestion at several vital points in the city.

According to BP Batam Head of General Bureau Mohamad Taofan, at least four major road segments are included in the program. Two of these projects have already been contracted and are scheduled to begin construction in January 2026. He emphasized that the development supports smoother logistics flow, community mobility, and the competitiveness of Batam’s industrial areas.

Key Projects Starting January 2026
One of the main projects involves Jalan Gajah Mada, stretching approximately 1.3 kilometers from the Landing Point Fly Over to Simpang Laluan Madani. This road is a continuation of the Sei Ladi Fly Over to Simpang Laluan Madani project and will be expanded into six lanes with three lanes in each direction. The project has been contracted at Rp140 billion and officially commenced in January 2026.

Another contracted project is Jalan R Suprapto, covering around 1.4 kilometers from Simpang Batamindo to DAM Mukakuning. As an extension of the Simpang Batamindo to Rusun Mukakuning route, the road will feature four lanes in two directions, supported by a budget of Rp50.8 billion.

Planned Roads for Industrial Zones
Beyond the two main projects, BP Batam is also preparing additional road developments that remain in the planning stage. These include a 1.7-kilometer road in the Tanjung Gundap industrial area with an allocated budget of Rp27 billion.

Another planned project targets the Kabil industrial area, where a new 1.5-kilometer road will also be developed with a matching budget allocation of Rp27 billion. Both projects are expected to further strengthen access within Batam’s industrial corridors.

Boosting Investment and Logistics Efficiency
Taofan noted that improved road infrastructure will significantly enhance accessibility to industrial zones, encourage new investment, and improve the efficiency of goods and services distribution. Better road capacity is expected to reduce logistical bottlenecks that have long affected industrial operations.

Batam Will Remain Attractive
With these upgrades, BP Batam aims to ensure that Batam remains attractive to investors by offering reliable infrastructure that supports large-scale manufacturing, trade, and logistics activities across the island.

The Rp244.8 billion road development plan reflects BP Batam’s long-term commitment to sustainable economic growth through infrastructure readiness. By prioritizing industrial connectivity and traffic efficiency, the initiative is poised to strengthen Batam’s role as a strategic economic hub, benefiting cross-border trade, investment flows, and regional cooperation between Indonesia and Singapore.
