Nine male pupils allegedly abused across multiple locations over a 15-month period

A serious criminal case involving alleged sexual crimes against children has drawn public attention after a long-serving teacher was brought before the court to face multiple charges involving young students.

Multiple Charges Involving Nine Victims
A 52-year-old teacher was charged at the Sessions Court with 11 counts of sexual offences involving nine male pupils aged between eight and 12. The alleged crimes include physical sexual assault, sodomy, and engaging in sexual intercourse against the order of nature. The offences were said to have occurred between April 2024 and July 2025.

Locations And Timeline Of Alleged Offences
According to the charge sheets, the incidents allegedly took place at several locations, including a house in Kampung Beris Panchor in Tawang near Bachok, a school cooperative room, a sports management room, and a computer laboratory. The multiple locations raised concerns about access and supervision within school-related environments.

Charges Under Child Protection Laws
Seven of the charges were brought under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act, involving physical sexual assault with sexual intent. Two additional charges involved alleged sodomy under Section 14(d) of the same Act. If convicted, each charge carries a sentence of up to 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping under Section 16(1).

Penal Code Charges Added

The accused also faces two charges under Section 377A of the Penal Code for allegedly engaging in sexual intercourse against the order of nature with an 11-year-and-four-month-old boy in February and May 2025. These charges are punishable under Section 377B, also carrying penalties of up to 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping if convicted.

Court Proceedings And Legal Representation
The accused pleaded not guilty to all charges after they were read before Judge Tengku Shahrizan Tuan Lah. The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Hajar Mazlan, while the defense was represented by Mohd Firdaus Zainal Abidin. The prosecution did not propose bail, citing the seriousness of the offences and the age of the victims.

Bail Granted With Strict Conditions
Despite objections, the court allowed bail of RM55,000 with one surety for all charges. Additional conditions include surrendering the accused’s passport, prohibiting contact with victims or witnesses, and mandatory monthly reporting to the nearest police station. The defense noted that the accused has served as a teacher for 17 years and was transferred to a department in Kota Baru after a 14-day remand period in July.

This case underscores the critical need for vigilance, accountability, and strong safeguards within educational institutions. As legal proceedings continue, the outcome will carry significant implications for child protection efforts, public trust in educators, and cross-border attention from Indonesians and Singaporeans closely following issues of child safety and justice in the region.
