Rising investor numbers push BEI Kepri to expand early financial education efforts
The capital market in the Riau Islands is experiencing a sharp rise in investor participation, prompting the Indonesia Stock Exchange Kepri Office to intensify financial literacy programs aimed at students and first-time investors. The momentum signals a shift in public interest toward long-term financial planning supported by credible education channels.
Growing Investor Participation
The Riau Islands capital market continues its upward trend, with the number of investors reaching 177 thousand as of September 2025. Nationally, investor participation stands at 19.2 million and is projected to hit 20 million soon. This surge reflects rising public confidence in financial instruments and growing awareness of investment opportunities.
Media’s Role in Financial Awareness
During a session in Nagoya, Batam on November 29, 2025, BEI Kepri Head Indra Novita emphasized the importance of media in disseminating factual and credible market information. According to Novi, media platforms help bridge the knowledge gap and support communities in understanding investment fundamentals.
Core Investment Products Introduced
While BEI has begun introducing new instruments such as Single Stock Future, Novi stressed that Kepri’s primary education still centers on core products. These include stocks for high risk-high return investors, government bonds for safer options, and mutual funds, which remain the top recommendation for beginners due to professional management.

Risk Profiles and Smart Product Selection
Novi reiterated that investment choices must match each investor’s risk profile.
Examples include:
• Mutual funds for new investors seeking lower complexity
• Stocks for investors comfortable with higher volatility
• Government bonds for stable and secure returns
The goal is to prevent misinformed decision-making and encourage sustainable investment habits among the public.
Expanding Financial Literacy Through Collaboration
To strengthen market education, BEI Kepri collaborates with OJK, universities, high schools, government institutions, and professional associations. These partnerships drive the establishment of Campus Investment Galleries and Educational Investment Galleries that specifically target students and young learners.
Digital and On-site Learning Platforms
In addition to offline learning programs, BEI offers the online Capital Market School and promotes IDX Mobile as a free learning tool. The app provides educational materials and a trading simulation with virtual funds of 5 million rupiah, enabling users to practice stock purchases without real financial risk.
The rapid growth of capital market participation in Kepri signifies a broader cultural shift toward financial literacy in Indonesia. As educational efforts expand and digital tools become more accessible, both Indonesians and Singaporeans engaging across the region stand to benefit from a more informed, financially resilient community.
