Officials from Batam and Singapore reaffirm commitment to a joint green industrial hub in BBK.

As Southeast Asia seeks cleaner economic pathways, Batam and Singapore move swiftly to strengthen their collaboration on a Sustainable Industrial Zone (SIZ), a green economy project poised to redefine cross-border industrial growth.

High-Level Meeting Signals Progress

On October 29, 2025, BP Batam Head Amsakar Achmad and Deputy Head Li Claudia Chandra met Singapore’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Trade & Industry, Gan Siao Huang, at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre. The meeting focused on accelerating the implementation of the Sustainable Industrial Zone (SIZ) initiative between Indonesia and Singapore, specifically in the Batam, Bintan, and Karimun (BBK) region.

Amsakar highlighted Singapore’s positive response, stating that both parties are eager to move from agreements to action. “Singapore is enthusiastic about concretizing this project that aligns with the Indonesian President’s green industry vision,” he said following the discussion.

A Regional Green Growth Engine

Both nations agree that SIZ has the potential to become a catalyst for new economic growth in Southeast Asia. With the support of stakeholders such as the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) and PLN Batam, the SIZ aims to build a productive, green, and inclusive industrial ecosystem.

The SIZ will integrate renewable energy solutions and sustainable manufacturing practices, positioning the BBK region as a future-ready economic hub and strengthening regional supply chain resilience.

Strategic Partnerships and Past Commitments

The project builds on the momentum of several prior agreements. In June 2025, the Indonesian ESDM Ministry signed an MoU with the Singapore government to develop green industrial zones. In early October 2025, an MoU was also signed in Osaka involving PT Rempang Energi Sentosa, PT Mustika Elok Graha (MEG), Keppel Energy, and PT Karya Mineral Sentosa to advance the SIZ across Batam, Rempang, and Galang.

These multi-sectoral collaborations form the foundation for a long-term transformation of BBK into a high-value, low-carbon economic region.

Long-Term Strategic Vision

The SIZ initiative is part of BP Batam’s 2025–2029 Strategic Plan, which envisions the KPBPB Batam area evolving into a competitive and sustainable economic zone. This aligns with Indonesia’s broader national target (Indonesia Emas 2045) that seeks to elevate the country into a top global economy through innovation and green transition.

BP Batam is committed to aligning the zone’s development with national energy strategies and engaging with public and private stakeholders to ensure long-term success.

The Batam–Singapore Sustainable Industrial Zone initiative marks a bold step toward a future of shared green prosperity in Southeast Asia. With concrete partnerships, strategic planning, and mutual enthusiasm, both nations are paving the way for a resilient and eco-friendly industrial future. As the BBK region transforms, this collaboration sets a benchmark for regional development driven by environmental integrity and economic ambition.
