UTHM and Johor government join forces to empower Malaysia’s next generation of skilled professionals.

Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Johor’s ambition of cultivating a highly skilled workforce through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), setting the foundation for Malaysia’s digital and industrial future.

Strengthening Human Capital for the Future

UTHM Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mas Fawzi Mohd Ali announced that the university remains steadfast in its mission to help Johor produce competitive, inclusive, and globally resilient talent. He emphasized that this aligns with the state’s long-term aspiration to develop human capital capable of meeting the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0).

Producing Over 1,000 Skilled Graduates Annually

Each year, UTHM graduates more than 1,000 students, most of whom come from TVET-based education backgrounds. These graduates are not only academically prepared but also equipped with the hands-on skills and adaptability required in the rapidly evolving industrial and digital economy.

“Education today extends beyond textbooks — it must create meaning, value, and a positive impact for society,” Dr Mas Fawzi said during the opening of the 4th Johor Education Seminar (SPJ-IV) held at Sultan Ibrahim Hall, UTHM.

Elevating TVET to the Mainstream

The Vice-Chancellor stressed that UTHM is determined to reposition TVET as a mainstream pathway, not a secondary option. By doing so, the university aims to elevate the perception of vocational education, ensuring it becomes a key driver of Malaysia’s industrial and technological advancement.

Inspiring Innovation and Leadership

This year’s seminar, themed “Education for Social Well-being: Inspiring Innovation and Leadership in the Malaysia MADANI Era”, gathered educators, students, and policymakers to exchange ideas and foster stronger networks. The event also highlighted the importance of collaboration in shaping educational systems that nurture innovation and leadership.

Knowledge as the Bridge to Social Well-being

Dr Mas Fawzi reminded participants that knowledge remains the most powerful bridge toward social progress. He urged continuous collaboration across academia, government, and industry to advance education that benefits both local communities and the nation.

A Platform for Educational Synergy

The two-day seminar, organised by UTHM’s Faculty of Technical and Vocational Education (FPTV) in collaboration with the Johor Education Department, is expected to draw more than 1,000 participants. The event serves as a platform for experts and learners alike to explore new approaches in education and strengthen collective responsibility in driving Johor’s human capital development agenda.

UTHM’s commitment to advancing TVET not only strengthens Johor’s industrial capabilities but also sets an example for regional collaboration in education-driven growth. As Malaysia continues to push toward innovation and sustainability, neighbouring nations such as Indonesia and Singapore can draw valuable insights from Johor’s model of aligning education with real-world skills and community well-being.
