2026 state budget allocates major increase for teachers, lecturers, and non-ASN educators.
Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati announced a nearly Rp100 trillion increase in funding for teachers, lecturers, and education staff in the 2026 state budget, marking one of the largest allocations to improve welfare in Indonesia’s education sector.
Massive Budget Increase
In a meeting with the DPR Budget Committee on August 21, 2025, Sri Mulyani confirmed that the allocation for teachers, lecturers, and education staff rose to Rp274.7 trillion, compared with the Rp178.7 trillion outlined in the initial financial note. The revised figure represents an increase of Rp96 trillion.
Allocation for Teachers and Lecturers
The 2026 budget includes Rp19.2 trillion in professional allowances for 754,747 non-ASN teachers, Rp69 trillion for 1.6 million regional ASN teachers, and Rp3.2 trillion for 80,325 non-ASN lecturers. Allowances for ASN lecturers and education staff also rose significantly, from Rp82.9 trillion to Rp120.3 trillion.

Support Beyond Salaries
In addition to educator compensation, the government set aside Rp301.2 trillion for students and scholarships. This includes Rp17.2 trillion for KIP College, Rp25 trillion for LPDP scholarships, Rp15.5 trillion for the Program Indonesia Pintar, and Rp223 trillion for free nutritious meals for schoolchildren.
School and Campus Development
The education budget also covers Rp150.1 trillion for schools and universities. Allocations include Rp64.3 trillion for BOS (School Operational Assistance), Rp5.1 trillion for BOP PAUD (early childhood education), Rp9.4 trillion for state university operations, Rp22.5 trillion for school and madrasa renovations, and Rp3 trillion for the construction of Garuda model schools.
Constitutional Mandate
Sri Mulyani emphasized that the Rp757.8 trillion education budget for 2026—equivalent to 20% of state spending—remains aligned with constitutional requirements. The 2026 allocation is also higher than the 2025 outlook of Rp690.1 trillion, reflecting the government’s ongoing priority on human capital development.
The record increase in teacher and lecturer funding underlines Indonesia’s commitment to education as a cornerstone of national progress. For Indonesians and Singaporeans alike, the expanded investment signals stronger regional competitiveness through improved teacher welfare, better schools, and greater student support.
