A 37-year-old man was fatally struck while aiding a motorcyclist on a highway in Johor
A tragic accident on a Johor highway claimed two lives early Saturday morning after a Good Samaritan was killed by a drunk driver while assisting a crash victim at the scene.
The incident took place at approximately 2.10am on April 13, 2025, along KM16 of Jalan Johor Bahru–Kota Tinggi. A Myanmar national in his 30s had earlier lost control of his motorcycle and crashed, dying instantly from severe head injuries. A 37-year-old local man stopped to help — but tragedy struck again when a car driven by a drunk motorist slammed into him.
Motorcycle Crash Sparks Tragic Chain Reaction
The fatal chain of events began when a Myanmar national riding his motorcycle toward Taman Setia Tropika crashed in the right lane. Seri Alam Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Sohaimi Ishak confirmed the rider died on the spot from head injuries.
A 37-year-old Malaysian man witnessing the incident rushed to the scene, taking it upon himself to direct traffic and alert motorists to prevent further harm while awaiting emergency responders.

Drunk Driver Slams into Rescuer
While rendering aid, the Good Samaritan was suddenly struck by a BMW driven by a 25-year-old man. The impact caused critical internal injuries, and he too was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver suffered minor facial injuries and was taken into custody.
Initial tests confirmed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Police obtained a four-day remand order for further investigation.
Police Invoke Traffic Act for Prosecution
The driver is now being investigated under Section 41(1) and Section 44(1) of Malaysia’s Road Transport Act 1987, for causing death through reckless driving and operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Both offences carry heavy penalties, including imprisonment and fines.
“This is not just a serious violation of law — it’s a reminder of the irreversible damage drunk driving can cause,” ACP Mohd Sohaimi said.
Authorities have urged anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant dashcam footage to contact the police at 07-386 4222. The case has sparked local concern over traffic safety and the continued menace of drunk driving on Malaysian roads.
This double fatality serves as a stark reminder of how one act of negligence can claim innocent lives — including those trying to do good. As investigations continue, calls are growing for stricter enforcement and public education to deter drunk driving and safeguard road users.
