Viral video shows two men punching each other in front of horrified commuters at checkpoint

A fight between two men erupted at the Johor Bahru Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex after one of them allegedly tried to cut in a long bus queue, sparking public outrage and a police investigation.

The incident occurred at Sultan Iskandar Building CIQ on April 9, 2025, and was captured in a video posted on Facebook, quickly going viral with nearly two million views. The footage showed a heated altercation between a man in yellow and another in a green jacket, who were seen grappling and throwing punches in front of a crowd of commuters.

Fight Erupts Over Queue Dispute

According to China Press, the man in the green jacket had allegedly tried to cut the line while waiting for a bus at the checkpoint. Despite being warned by staff, he ignored the instructions and attempted to join the queue from another spot, angering a man already waiting.

Eyewitnesses reported that the confrontation escalated when the man in yellow confronted the alleged queue-cutter. The dispute quickly turned physical as they threw punches at each other and slammed into nearby barriers and a parked bus.

Onlookers Attempt to Intervene

In the video, both men can be seen locked in a brawl as shocked commuters scrambled to get out of their way. A woman standing nearby was nearly hit during the scuffle, heightening concerns about public safety in crowded transit areas.

Eventually, a few brave individuals stepped in to break up the fight. Bus conductors and passengers were seen restraining the combatants, although the man in yellow continued yelling angrily after being pulled away.

Police Launch Investigation

Johor Bahru South District Police Chief Raub Selamat confirmed that a 21-year-old filed a report on the incident. Preliminary investigations found that the altercation was triggered by the alleged line-cutting, which then led to the violent exchange.

Both individuals involved are now under investigation. If convicted, they may face up to six months in prison, a fine of RM1,000 (≈S$299), or both, under Malaysian law.

Viral Outrage Highlights Need for Crowd Control

The video sparked heated debate online, with netizens criticizing both the violent response and the lack of order in managing bus queues at the CIQ complex. The checkpoint, which serves as a key transit hub between Malaysia and Singapore, is frequently crowded, especially during peak hours.

Calls have intensified for better crowd control and staff enforcement to prevent similar incidents from recurring, especially at high-stress border points.

The altercation at Johor CIQ underscores ongoing frustrations around border congestion and commuter etiquette. As authorities investigate the matter, the public is reminded to exercise patience and avoid resorting to violence — even under provocation — in shared spaces.
