Police say the suspect committed two armed robberies and has 15 prior records
A man with a history of criminal and drug offences was arrested within two hours after allegedly committing two armed robberies in Kulai, Johor.
The two incidents occurred on the morning of Friday, April 4, involving both a foreign and a local female victim. Quick police action led to the suspect’s arrest at a nearby petrol station the same day.
First Robbery Victim Slashed With Machete
The first report was filed at 8:26 a.m., when a 52-year-old Indonesian woman was attacked behind a restaurant on Jalan Seri Putra. According to Kulai district police chief Tan Seng Lee, the victim suffered injuries to her left arm from what appeared to be a machete. She was treated at Temenggong Seri Maharaja Tun Ibrahim Hospital and is now in stable condition.
Second Attack Occurred Minutes Later
Just 20 minutes later, another victim—a 36-year-old Malaysian woman—reported a similar robbery in Taman Impian Senai, Jalan Impian Senai Utama. Both cases involved a man using a bladed weapon and occurred in public spaces during daylight hours.
Suspect Caught at Petrol Station
Police traced the suspect to a petrol station along Jalan Skudai-Gelang Patah at 10:05 a.m. on the same day. Officers from the Mutiara Rini police station detained the 40-year-old man, who was riding a Yamaha Y15ZR motorcycle.
A search of his backpack revealed multiple stolen items, including handbags, mobile phones, an Indonesian passport, jewelry, and a toolbox containing burglary tools such as a metal cutter and screwdriver.
Tan confirmed that the suspect has 15 prior records related to both criminal activity and drug offences. He also tested positive for methamphetamine following his arrest. Authorities believe the man acted alone in both cases.
Seven-Day Remand Under Penal Code
The suspect is being held in remand until April 11. He is being investigated under Sections 392/397 and 394 of the Penal Code, which deal with armed robbery and voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery—charges that carry significant prison time if convicted.
This rapid response by Johor police underscores their readiness to tackle violent crime, ensuring public safety even amid rising concerns over machete-related offences.
