Hospital assault scandal deepens as police uncover alleged sexual deviance, multiple victims, and disturbing patterns
What began as a horrifying sexual assault allegation at a Bandung hospital has now spiraled into a deeper investigation into a medical resident’s alleged deviant behavior. The accused, Priguna Anugerah P., a trainee from Universitas Padjadjaran (Padjadjaran University), is suspected of targeting unconscious victims, with at least three cases under review.
The case involves a 31-year-old anesthesiology resident doctor accused of raping the daughter of a patient at Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS) Bandung. He allegedly sedated the victim before committing the assault. The incident occurred on March 18, 2025, and he was arrested five days later.
Suspicious Behavior Captured on CCTV

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from RSHS helped confirm suspicions surrounding the movements of Priguna Anugerah P., known as PAP. The video showed the anesthesiology medical resident escorting FA, a 21-year-old woman who was caring for her critically ill father, to a remote and inactive operating room on the hospital’s 7th floor.
This particular room, the MCHC unit, was under preparation for female-specific procedures and was not yet operational. The footage captured the unsettling moment when PAP entered the room with FA—without any other accompanying staff—despite regulations mandating chaperones for patient interactions, especially involving female companions.
Chronology of the Assault
On March 18, at around 1:00 a.m., PAP reportedly convinced FA to undergo a blood transfusion, telling her it was routine and should be done in private. Once inside room 711 of the MCHC building, he allegedly instructed her to undress and change into surgical attire.
He then injected a substance into her arm 15 times through an IV setup. FA later reported dizziness before losing consciousness. When she awoke around 4:00 a.m., she felt pain in her genital area and confided in her mother, prompting a report to West Java police.
It was later revealed that at the time of the assault, FA was vigilantly caring for her father in the hospital’s ICU following surgery. In a tragic turn of events, her father reportedly passed away shortly after the incident, compounding the psychological trauma she endured.
Subsequent medical examinations revealed trauma consistent with sexual assault. Police recovered semen samples and contraceptive materials used by the perpetrator. All were submitted for DNA testing.
Doctor Expelled, Formally Detained

Following the investigation, Universitas Padjadjaran immediately expelled PAP from its specialist training program. While he was not a direct employee of RSHS, the hospital returned him to the university’s jurisdiction. “We condemn all forms of sexual violence,” said Faculty Dean Yudi Hidayat, affirming that the university and RSHS are supporting police efforts.
On March 23, PAP was arrested at a Bandung apartment. His arrest came just days after the report and shortly after an attempted suicide, which delayed detention. Police confirmed that he was formally detained under Article 6(c) of Indonesia’s 2022 Sexual Violence Act, facing up to 12 years in prison.
Suicide Attempt Before Arrest
According to Police Commissioner Surawan, PAP attempted to take his own life shortly before police reached him. “He tried to cut his wrists,” Surawan said in a press briefing. He was hospitalized, stabilized, and then immediately detained upon discharge. The attempt, police believe, was driven by mounting guilt and fear of the legal consequences.
Multiple Victims and Sexual Fetish Suspected
The investigation has uncovered even more disturbing developments. At least three individuals may have been assaulted by PAP, although only one—FA—has filed a formal complaint so far. Police suspect the accused harbored a sexual fetish involving unconscious individuals.
“His fantasy is about people who are unconscious,” said Surawan, citing preliminary psychological evaluations. Experts believe PAP may derive gratification from controlling helpless victims. These signs have prompted a broader psychological and forensic assessment to determine whether he suffers from a diagnosable paraphilic disorder.
Police are now interviewing other potential victims and are collaborating with forensic psychologists to evaluate the scope of his behavior and deviance. Investigators believe the suspect used his position and access to sedatives to exploit vulnerable women in a medical setting.
Call for Systemic Reform
The scandal has prompted public outcry and calls for hospitals and universities to revise oversight protocols for trainee doctors. Questions are being raised about how a resident doctor with such tendencies went unnoticed. RSHS and Universitas Padjadjaran have since pledged full cooperation and have begun reviewing their own clinical governance structures.
Meanwhile, police are urging any other potential victims to come forward as the investigation expands.
This case has exposed not only a horrific individual crime but also the alarming vulnerability of patients and their families in supposedly secure hospital environments. The presence of multiple victims and allegations of a disturbing sexual fetish suggest systemic failure in oversight. For both Indonesia and the region, this moment demands stronger regulations, psychological screening for trainees, and protections for those seeking care. The broader healthcare community must now face uncomfortable truths to prevent future abuse under the guise of medical professionalism.
