FedEx’s new Singapore-Johor route slashes delivery times by two hours for import shipments.

Kuala Lumpur, February 3, 2025 – FedEx Express, one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, has announced enhancements to its inbound shipping services to Johor, enabling businesses to receive import shipments from Asia, Europe, and the U.S. two hours earlier. This improvement comes as Johor’s economy experiences rapid growth, fueled by the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).

With Johor emerging as a key economic hub in Malaysia, FedEx’s logistics upgrade aims to support the region’s growing demand for efficient supply chains, particularly within manufacturing, e-commerce, and retail sectors. The Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) is further strengthening cross-border economic ties, making timely deliveries crucial for business competitiveness.

Faster Shipments via New Singapore-Johor Route

FedEx has rerouted its import shipments through the Singapore Gateway, followed by direct clearance at the Senai Gateway in Johor. Previously, imports passed through Kuala Lumpur, adding delays with a 300-kilometre detour. This adjustment now reduces delivery times by up to two hours, significantly benefiting industries reliant on quick imports.

The manufacturing, retail, and e-commerce sectors stand to gain the most from FedEx’s improved service. These industries, heavily dependent on fast-moving supply chains, will enjoy enhanced flexibility, allowing businesses to better meet customer demands and manage inventory more efficiently.

“Improving the speed of our services is essential for businesses looking to thrive in today’s competitive environment,” said Tien Long Woon, Managing Director of FedEx Malaysia. He emphasized that time efficiency plays a critical role in supporting businesses, adding, “We are enhancing the efficiency of local businesses in Johor and improving their flexibility to better serve their own customers.”

The JS-SEZ, launched in partnership between Malaysia and Singapore, is designed to attract foreign direct investment (FDI), promote job creation, and enhance cross-border trade. In 2023, Johor’s GDP grew by 4.1%, outpacing the national average of 3.6%. The state accounted for 29% of Malaysia’s total trade, valued at RM753.1 billion (approximately SGD 225.5 billion).

FedEx’s accelerated service aligns with Johor’s vision of becoming a regional economic powerhouse. The company remains committed to supporting local business growth and contributing to Malaysia’s economic development through innovative logistics solutions that enhance trade efficiency.

The new FedEx delivery route signifies faster cross-border logistics, fostering stronger economic integration between Singapore and Johor. This improvement reduces operational bottlenecks for companies with supply chains spanning both countries, supporting regional trade growth within the JS-SEZ framework.
