BP Batam welcomed a delegation from Mayapada Healthcare Group and Apollo Hospital India on January 18, 2025, to assess the development progress of Batam’s Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for International Health and Tourism. The visit marked a significant step toward strengthening Batam’s position as a regional medical tourism hub. Officials highlighted the potential for job creation and economic growth as investments in the healthcare sector continue to expand.

Batam’s SEZ for International Health and Tourism has attracted growing interest from global healthcare providers. As part of efforts to boost the sector, BP Batam hosted a high-level delegation from Apollo Hospital India and Mayapada Healthcare Group. The visit was aimed at reviewing the readiness of infrastructure and ensuring the seamless development of Mayapada Apollo Batam International Hospital (MABIH), a key component of Batam’s medical tourism strategy.

Medical Tourism in Batam Set for Expansion

A visit was conducted by representatives from Apollo Hospital India and Mayapada Healthcare Group to evaluate Batam’s International Health and Tourism SEZ. The initiative was highlighted as a strategic project that could integrate world-class medical services with regional tourism attractions.

BP Batam’s Member for Strategic Policy, Enoh Suharto Pranoto, stated that the development of the SEZ was seen as a major catalyst for job creation and economic improvement. The healthcare zone was expected to generate new employment opportunities, benefiting local workers and the regional economy.

Apollo Hospital India was acknowledged as the primary investor in the SEZ’s healthcare development. IEnoh emphasized that local community support would be crucial to ensure the long-term sustainability and competitiveness of Batam’s medical tourism sector.

The readiness of Mayapada Apollo Batam International Hospital (MABIH) was inspected by the visiting delegation. Facilities within the Batam Healthcare SEZ were being designed to meet international standards, ensuring the region remains competitive in the global medical tourism industry.
