The suspect, YT, was traveling on Super Air Jet Flight IU 859 to Jakarta during the Christmas and New Year rush. Authorities suspect the smuggled items were intended for sale in Jakarta, where demand for electronics is high.

Customs officials identified the suspect, YT, carrying an empty suitcase and a backpack in the departure lounge. The unusual behavior raised suspicion, prompting further investigation.

Seizure of Smuggled Goods
A search of the suitcase revealed 100 used smartphones, valued at over SGD 6,000. The items were seized, and the suitcase was sealed for evidence.

YT faces charges under Indonesia’s Customs Law (Law No. 17 of 2006) and Free Trade Zone regulations. If convicted, the penalties include a prison term of 1 to 10 years and fines ranging from SGD 4,150 to SGD 415,000.
