In a decisive move against illegal parking operations, the Police Regional Office of Kepulauan Riau (Polda Kepri) detained 26 unlicensed parking attendants in Batam. The operation, conducted over two days from December 5-6, 2024, underscores authorities’ commitment to addressing public complaints about unlawful practices disrupting traffic and public safety.


Illegal parking operations in Batam have long been a source of public frustration, with unlicensed attendants often overcharging or intimidating motorists. The recent operation, led by the Direktorat Samapta (Ditsamapta) of Polda Kepri, aimed to restore order in key areas while addressing potential criminal activities linked to these unauthorized operators.


The two-day operation targeted hotspots like Edukit, Gelael, Hotel 01, Kimia Farma, Green Land, Botania, and the Welcome to Batam area. A total of 26 individuals without valid parking permits or identification were detained, with 12 already fined SGD 12.45 (IDR 150,000) each following legal proceedings.

Kabid Humas Polda Kepri, Kombes Pol. Zahwani Pandra Arsyad, emphasized the operation’s urgency following mounting complaints from residents about excessive charges, intimidation, and general disorder caused by illegal parking attendants. These activities also raised concerns about associated crimes, including extortion and theft.


Police highlighted the operation’s role in reducing risks of criminal behavior in public areas. Ensuring that facilities like parking spaces remain free of illegal operators is crucial to maintaining public trust and safety.


The police urged residents to report unauthorized parking activities through Call Center 110 or the Polri Super Apps. Additionally, registered parking attendants were reminded to comply with legal regulations to avoid penalties.
