Major investment marks significant progress in renewable energy with a floating solar project in Batam.
PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (SMI) has approved financing of S$34.7 million (equivalent to Rp 374 billion) to PT Nusantara Tembesi Baru Energi (NTBE). The funds will be used to construct a 46 MWp Floating Solar Power Plant (PLTS) in Batam, Indonesia, solidifying its position as the second-largest floating solar project in the nation.
Strategic National Project
The 46 MWp Floating Solar Power Plant in Tembesi, Batam has been designated as a National Strategic Project, making it the second-largest floating solar project in Indonesia after Cirata. The initiative aligns with Indonesia’s renewable energy goals and the global push for sustainable energy solutions.
Partnerships Supporting the Project
The financing agreement, signed on December 16, 2024, at SMI’s Sahid Sudirman Center office, involves key stakeholders:
1. PT Nusantara Power
2. PT Nusantara Renewable Energy
3. PT TBS Energi Utama Tbk
The funds provided by SMI are intended to advance renewable energy infrastructure, reduce carbon emissions, and promote economic sustainability.
SMI’s Contribution
SMI’s total renewable energy financing has resulted in an additional 7.7 GW of energy capacity in Indonesia, with 2 GW contributed by renewable sources like solar, wind, and hydropower.

Tangible Impact
1. Carbon Reduction: The project will reduce CO2 emissions by 1.55 million tons annually across SMI-supported initiatives.
2. Energy Access: Enhancing electricity for 5.9 million households, equivalent to 23.6 million people.
3. Capacity: The solar plant’s 46 MWp capacity will meet growing energy demands while reducing reliance on non-renewable sources.
Commitment to Sustainability
Reynaldi Hermansjah, CEO of SMI, emphasized the importance of the initiative:
“We are committed to actively contributing to carbon reduction and expanding renewable energy access. This collaboration demonstrates the power of partnerships in achieving sustainable energy goals.”
Dimas Wibowo, CEO of TBS Energi Baru, highlighted its significance:
“This project strengthens renewable energy integration in Batam and beyond, providing clean, affordable energy while attracting foreign investment to the region.”
Regional Integration
The Tembesi project underscores Indonesia’s renewable energy ambitions while enhancing Batam’s position as a strategic hub for green energy and foreign investments.
