The Indonesian Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla RI) successfully intercepted an illegal fuel transaction involving two vessels in Teluk Jodoh, Batam, on December 17, 2024. Acting on a tip-off from the public, the agency’s patrol team seized the vessels MV Armada Segara and SPOB Cipta 02, preventing the smuggling of 23 kiloliters (kl) of diesel fuel.
Public Tip-Off Sparks Investigation
The operation began following a call to Bakamla RI’s Call Center, which was relayed to their Command and Control Center (Puskodal). Acting promptly, patrol vessels KN Pulau Dana – 323 and KN Bintang Laut – 401, commanded by Letkol Bakamla Umar Dani and Letkol Bakamla Andi Christi Mahendra respectively, were dispatched to monitor the area.
At 5:00 AM, the patrol team identified two vessels engaging in suspicious ship-to-ship (STS) transshipment.
Illegal Fuel Transfer Confirmed
The vessels were intercepted at 01° 09.51’ N – 103° 57.88’ E. Upon boarding SPOB Cipta 02 at 5:15 AM, Bakamla officers confirmed the transfer of high-speed diesel (HSD) from MV Armada Segara to SPOB Cipta 02. A total of 23 kl of HSD fuel was found stored in the receiving vessel’s tanks.

Seizure for Further Investigation
Both vessels and their crew were secured for further investigation. Bakamla emphasized that this operation is part of its commitment to safeguarding Indonesia’s maritime resources and combating illegal activities that harm the national economy.
