New measures aim to reduce congestion at Batam ports during the Christmas and New Year rush.

Batam’s immigration authorities are taking proactive steps to handle a surge in international passengers during the Christmas and New Year holiday period. A key measure includes relocating IMEI registration counters outside customs checks, alongside improvements like additional passport counters and autogate installations at major ports.

With Batam expecting a significant influx of travelers during the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year holidays, local authorities have rolled out comprehensive strategies to ensure smooth operations at key international ports. The move reflects Batam’s importance as a gateway between Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore.

Additional Passport Counters and Personnel Deployment

Five new autogate units will be installed at Batam Center Port’s arrival area before the 2025 Lunar New Year. These automated gates are expected to significantly reduce processing times for travelers, particularly those crossing frequently between Batam and Singapore.

To alleviate pressure at Batam Center Port, authorities are optimizing alternative routes. Pelabuhan Sekupang will handle overflow traffic through additional sailings, providing travelers with a smoother journey.
