Batam Center to enhance passenger convenience with five new autogates before Lunar New Year.
Batam’s immigration services are set to undergo a significant upgrade with the installation of five new autogates at the arrival area of Batam Center International Ferry Terminal. The initiative, led by the Batam Immigration Office, aims to streamline passenger processing and enhance travel convenience. The project is targeted for completion before the Lunar New Year holiday season.
Batam, a popular gateway for international travelers from Singapore and Malaysia, has consistently invested in infrastructure to accommodate its growing influx of visitors. With Batam ranked as the second-largest contributor to Indonesia’s international tourist arrivals, upgrading its immigration facilities has become essential.

2. Enhanced Services to Match Neighboring Countries
Hajar Aswad, Head of Batam Immigration, emphasized the importance of keeping pace with advanced systems in neighboring countries like Singapore. “This upgrade aims to enhance convenience for international visitors, ensuring seamless immigration services,” he said.
3. Previous Autogate Installations at Harbour Bay
The initiative follows earlier installations of 15 autogates at Harbour Bay and Batam Center Ferry Terminals in 2022. Currently, five units are used for departures at Batam Center, while the arrivals section awaits these new additions.
4. Targeting Singaporean and Malaysian Travelers
Given that most international visitors to Batam are from Singapore, where automated systems are already common, the new autogates aim to align with expectations. “Tourists from Singapore are accustomed to automation; this upgrade is necessary to maintain Batam’s competitiveness,” Aswad added.
