Batam is on track to complete three vital infrastructure projects under the Batam Special Economic Zone (KEK Aero Technic) by December 2024. BP Batam Chairman Muhammad Rudi has reaffirmed the commitment to finishing the Bundaran Punggur roundabout, Hang Nadim Airport’s VVIP terminal, and Flyover Lela Bahari on schedule. These projects are set to enhance connectivity, improve traffic flow, and attract global investments.
Batam’s KEK Aero Technic, strategically located near Hang Nadim Airport, is designed to attract investments in maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) industries, logistics, manufacturing, and certified mechanic training. Expected to create 9,976 jobs, the zone is projected to serve 12,000 aircraft and generate a business value of S$135.13 billion (US$100 billion) by 2025. Infrastructure projects aim to improve accessibility and operational efficiency within this economic hub.

BP Batam Chairman Muhammad Rudi, accompanied by key officials, inspected the progress of the Bundaran Punggur roundabout, Hang Nadim Airport’s VVIP terminal, and Flyover Lela Bahari. The Bundaran Punggur, currently 89% complete, focuses on enhancing road connectivity with ongoing asphalt work and residential access improvements. Hang Nadim’s VVIP terminal is fully constructed and ready to welcome distinguished guests, boosting the airport’s international appeal.
Meanwhile, the Flyover Lela Bahari, designed to ease congestion between Tiban, Nagoya, and Batam Centre, is 90% finished. The installation of bridge approaches and U-turns is underway, with Malay-inspired architectural details adding to its visual appeal. Despite weather-related challenges, Rudi remains confident of meeting the December 2024 deadline, emphasizing the government’s dedication to improving Batam’s infrastructure and economic potential.
