Malaysian narcotics officers have seized fentanyl-filled vape cartridges and large quantities of methamphetamine and Erimin 5 in coordinated raids in Puchong and Cheras, blocking what police say was an emerging fentanyl market.
Raids And Massive Drug Haul
Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director Hussein Omar Khan said officers raided a workshop in Puchong and a house in Cheras, arresting two Malaysian men aged 31 and 33. Police seized 400 vape cartridges containing fentanyl liquid, 612.12kg of methamphetamine and 6.4kg of Erimin 5 pills, with an estimated value of RM31.57 million (approx. S$10.1 million), along with three vehicles and RM15,000 in cash.
Syndicate Operations And Modus Operandi
The suspects, identified as a transporter and a storekeeper, allegedly helped run a syndicate active since early 2026 that used Malaysia as a base to repackage drugs. Hussein said drugs were delivered by leaving cars loaded with narcotics at pre-arranged locations for buyers to collect, store and then return, a tactic aimed at concealing direct contact between suppliers and buyers.
Fentanyl Vapes And Market Testing
Hussein said the group used Malaysia as a hub to package vape products filled with fentanyl, a synthetic opioid often described as more dangerous than heroin and morphine. Police believe the syndicate was “testing the market” by distributing fentanyl vapes to close associates and entertainment outlets, and that full-scale retail sales had not yet begun when the network was disrupted.
Regional Trafficking Links And Impact
The fentanyl is suspected to have been smuggled via northern states, with Hussein not ruling out a link to the “Golden Triangle” trafficking region. Authorities estimate the seized narcotics could have supplied around 3.12 million drug users, underscoring the potential scale of harm if the drugs had reached broader markets in Malaysia and beyond.
Ongoing Investigations And Detentions
Both suspects have been remanded until April 19 and 22, respectively, as police move to identify and arrest remaining syndicate members and map the wider network. Hussein said Malaysian police will continue hunting the group’s remnants to prevent further fentanyl infiltration, stressing that the latest operation likely prevented a new and highly lethal drug trend from taking root.
