BP Batam Optimistic About Economic Opportunities from International Flights

Batam’s economy is poised to benefit from new international commercial flights connecting Incheon, South Korea, and Hang Nadim Airport, Batam. According to the Acting Head of BP Batam, Purwiyanto, this new route is expected to boost tourism and open up fresh investment opportunities, signaling promising growth for the region.

 

In a positive development for Batam’s economic landscape, BP Batam has expressed optimism about the newly launched international flights between Incheon, South Korea, and Batam. These flights, operated by South Korea’s Jeju Air in partnership with Lion Air, are expected to have a direct impact on the tourism sector, while also enhancing connectivity and encouraging new investments in Batam.

 

Purwiyanto, the Acting Head of BP Batam, highlighted that the introduction of the Incheon-Batam route is anticipated to significantly boost the city’s investment climate. By improving connectivity between the two countries, Batam is opening its doors to potential investors, particularly those from South Korea. This move also aligns with the city’s broader strategy to develop various sectors, with tourism being a key focus.

The direct flights will operate using Jeju Air’s Boeing 737-800, with the marketing side managed jointly by Jeju Air and Lion Air. This codeshare agreement allows passengers to purchase tickets through Lion Air’s system, streamlining the booking process for travelers.

 

The current flight schedule involves three flights per week, with plans to increase to four starting from October 27. The Incheon-Batam route will operate on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, with the return flights on Thursdays, Fridays, and Mondays.

 

Pikri Ilham Kurniansyah, Director of PT BIB, a consortium managing the airport, emphasized the importance of these direct flights. He noted that the Incheon-Batam route will foster closer ties between the two countries, particularly in the tourism sector, and will contribute to the overall economic growth of Batam by attracting foreign visitors and investors.

This new initiative comes after a successful partnership between BP Batam and PT BIB, which includes Angkasa Pura I, Incheon International Airport Corporation, and WIKA.
