Batam’s Domestic Air Travel Sees 14% Increase in July 2024

In July 2024, Batam witnessed a substantial increase in domestic air travel, with passenger numbers climbing by 14.44 percent from the previous month, according to the latest statistics from the Batam City Statistics Office (BPS).

BPS staff member, Fadel, reported a notable uptick in both arrivals and departures for domestic flights at Hang Nadim Airport, contrasting with mixed results in international passenger traffic during the same period.

Fadel noted that domestic departures from Hang Nadim Airport reached 185,433 passengers in July 2024, marking a 13.61 percent increase from June’s 163,216 passengers. This rise indicates a strong recovery and growing demand within Indonesia’s domestic air travel sector.

Domestic arrivals experienced an even more significant surge, with 193,478 passengers recorded in July 2024—a 15.25 percent increase from the previous month. This growth highlights Batam’s increasing attraction as a destination within Indonesia.

Conversely, international travel from Batam showed a stark decrease in departures with only 2,364 passengers in July, a 64.48 percent drop from June. However, international arrivals nearly doubled, increasing by 98.28 percent from 5,519 to 10,943 passengers, reflecting a robust interest in Batam from overseas travelers.

The overall passenger traffic at Batam’s Hang Nadim Airport suggests a dynamic shift in travel patterns, with domestic travel gaining momentum while international routes adjust to fluctuating demands.
