The conversion of a tanker into a Floating Storage Production and Offloading (FPSO) unit in Batam’s Pan Ocean PT Dok warisan Pertama shipyard is approaching completion, with 80% of the work already done. This landmark project, the first of its kind in Indonesia, is set to significantly boost the country’s oil and gas production capabilities.

Located in Tanjung Uncang, Batam, this project is not only a technical achievement but also a testament to the local workforce’s capabilities. The FPSO Marlin Natuna, intended for the Forel gas project in the Natuna islands, is a key part of Indonesia’s strategy to increase its energy production and self-sufficiency.

The FPSO conversion project involves upgrading a tanker to handle up to 250,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD), specifically for the Natuna gas field operations.

Led by SKK Migas and KKKS Medco Energi, this project is pivotal in ensuring the sustained availability of national energy resources and supports the government’s energy security goals.
