The city government of Batam, in coordination with the Indonesian Cycling Federation (ISSI), is gearing up to host the national championships for Road Race and Mountain Biking (MTB) from June 19 to July 1, 2024. This event is set to spotlight Batam as a prime location for competitive cycling in the Riau Islands Province.
Batam’s selection as the host city reflects its growing prominence in sports tourism and the local government’s commitment to enhancing sporting facilities and infrastructure. The championships will feature a series of races across various categories, including Cross Country Olympics (XCO) and Individual Time Trial (ITT).
The MTB competition will include Cross Country Olympics (XCO), Cross Country Relay (XCR), Downhill (DH), and Enduro (End) races at Mangsang Bike Park in Tanjung Piayu. The Road Bike events will feature Individual Time Trial (ITT), Team Time Trial (TTT), and Road Race (IRR) at Nongsa Loops and Jalan Trans Barelang.

To accommodate the events, certain roads will be widened using heavy machinery. Local government departments have been tasked with ensuring that the race routes are prepared and safe for competitors, which involves significant logistical coordination.
The Batam government, along with BP Batam, is closely coordinating to ensure that all venues, especially the road bike circuits in Nongsa, meet international standards for competitive racing.
Hosting the championships is expected to boost local tourism and the economy, providing a platform for local vendors and businesses to benefit from the influx of athletes, teams, and spectators.
