Kepri Fencing Team Gears Up for PON with Singapore Try Out

The Kepri Committee of the National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI) has lauded its fencing athletes for participating in the “SMU Varsity Fencing Championship 2024” in Singapore, a critical preparatory step for the upcoming National Sports Week (PON) in Sumut-Aceh 2024.

Kepri’s fencing team’s participation in the Singapore championship from May 24 to 27, 2024, is part of a broader strategy by KONI Kepri to hone the skills of its athletes ahead of significant national competitions. This international exposure is intended to benchmark their capabilities against robust international standards.

KONI Kepri’s Chairperson, Usep RS, highlighted the importance of international competitions as ideal platforms for athletes to gain essential competitive experience and improve their tactical skills before the National Sports Week.

Four athletes from Kepri participated in the event, aimed at leveraging international exposure to clinch medals at the upcoming PON. The team’s presence in Singapore reflects Kepri’s commitment to achieving sports excellence through rigorous training and exposure.

Most of the Kepri fencing athletes are based in Jakarta due to their dual commitments to sports and continuing education at high school and university levels.

The acting Chairperson of the Provincial Administration of the Indonesian Fencing Association (PP IKASI) Kepri, Dr. Suyono MBA, indicated that the participation in the Singapore event is part of a targeted developmental program for athletes who have qualified for PON XXI in Sumut-Aceh 2024.
