Indonesia’s Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment has announced a collaboration involving five companies to export clean electricity to Singapore, marking a significant step in regional energy cooperation.
This initiative, facilitated by the Ministry’s Deputy for Infrastructure and Transportation Coordination, Rachmat Kaimuddin, involves companies like PT Adaro Energy Indonesia, PT Medco Energi Internasional, EDP Renewables, Vanda, and Kepel. These companies have been granted conditional approval to begin exporting electricity generated from solar power plants.
The consortium includes notable developers and is supported by Indonesia’s state-owned electricity company, PT PLN, to ensure the infrastructure required for cross-border transmission is in place.

The transmission infrastructure essential for the export will connect with Singapore Power, ensuring efficient and reliable energy transfer between the two nations.
While Batam’s proximity to Singapore suggests it is a prime location for solar panels, the deployment will also include other regions like Java to foster broader industrial growth within Indonesia.
The initiative aims to propel the domestic solar panel and battery manufacturing industries, aligning with the government’s push to enhance the renewable energy sector’s supply chain within the country.
