During a recent Leaders’ Retreat at Bogor Palace, Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) extended an invitation to Singapore to invest in various sectors within Indonesia, including manufacturing and renewable energy projects in Kendal and Batam.
In his address to Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and delegates, President Jokowi highlighted opportunities in textile manufacturing at Kendal Industrial Park, green economy initiatives through sustainable infrastructure, and the development of a data center in Nongsa, Batam. These proposals aim to bolster bilateral cooperation and drive technological and economic growth in Indonesia.
Jokowi highlighted the Kendal Industrial Park as a prime location for Singaporean investment in textile manufacturing, aiming to strengthen Indonesia’s industrial sector.

The Indonesian President encouraged Singapore to engage in renewable energy projects and sustainable infrastructure development, reflecting a mutual interest in environmental sustainability.
Another significant proposal was the development of a data center in Nongsa, Batam, which is poised to enhance digital infrastructure and data management between the nations.
Jokowi also urged for collaboration in food technology transfer and knowledge exchange, emphasizing the importance of food security and technological advancement.
With Singapore documented as the top investor in Indonesia in the first quarter of 2024, investing USD 4.2 billion (approximately SGD 5.71 billion), the relationship continues to be economically significant
The strengthened investment ties between Singapore and Indonesia signify a deepening economic and technological partnership. This collaboration not only benefits both nations but also contributes to regional stability and prosperity in Southeast Asia.
