By monitoring and adapting regulations from countries such as USA, EU, China, and Brazil, Indonesia aims to ensure its AI initiatives are in line with international best practices.
Indonesia considers those 4 countries as models for AI regulation, using their strategies to develop a comprehensive AI governance framework domestically.

With the issuance of Ministerial Circular No. 9 of 2023 on AI Ethics signifies Indonesia’s commitment to a soft-regulatory approach that emphasizes ethical considerations in AI development.
Deputy Minister Patria explains the balance between principle-based and rule-based approaches in AI implementation, highlighting the need for a tailored strategy that suits Indonesia’s context.
Acknowledging the potential negative impacts of generative AI, including discrimination and misinformation, Patria advocates for robust governance to mitigate these risks effectively.
