In an effort to foster collaboration and innovation among Batam’s creative talents, a fashion design training session for local fashion designers and batik craftsmen was officially launched at Harmoni One Batamcentre on Friday, February 23, 2024. This initiative, spearheaded by the city’s Development Council and the Department of Trade and Industry, aims to enrich participants with advanced fashion design and pattern-making knowledge, further contributing to Batam’s burgeoning fashion industry.
As Batam continues to grow as a hub for Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (MICE), the demand for unique and trend-setting fashion designs is on the rise. This training program represents a strategic move to leverage local talents in fashion design and batik craftsmanship, aiming to create high-quality fashion products that appeal to both locals and visitors.
The training program is a collaborative effort between the Batam Craft Council (Dekranasda) and the Department of Trade and Industry (Disperindag), reflecting the city’s commitment to nurturing its creative industries. By bringing together batik craftsmen and fashion designers, the initiative seeks to foster synergy and innovation in Batam’s fashion scene.

Over the course of five days, from February 23 to February 27, 2024, 40 participants from small and medium enterprises (SMEs) across the fashion and batik sectors are engaged in comprehensive workshops at Harmoni One Hotel. These sessions are facilitated by experts from the Indonesia Fashion Chamber (IFC) Jakarta, and Ridhani Agustina, promising a wealth of new insights and techniques.
The training covers various aspects of fashion design, including pattern making, trend analysis, and market adaptation, aiming to equip participants with the skills necessary to respond to the evolving demands of the fashion industry.
With Batam’s diverse batik motifs and the creative potential of its designers, the program encourages continuous innovation and creativity. This initiative not only aims to enhance the local fashion industry but also to position Batam as a significant player in the regional and international fashion markets.
