The Batam Government (Pemko Batam) was recognized by the Directorate General of Land and Spatial Control (PPTR) of the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning / National Land Agency (ATR/BPN), highlighting its significant contributions to law enforcement in spatial planning and the handling of housing development cases within the protected forest area of Sei Ulu Lanjai, Sambau Village, Nongsa District.
In a ceremony held at the Batam City Hall, awards were presented to key city officials, including the City Secretary Jefridin, M.Pd, Head of the Public Works and Spatial Planning Department Azril Apriansyah, and Head of the Roads and Water Resources Department Suhar. This accolade comes in recognition of Batam’s diligent efforts to regulate land use within its jurisdiction, particularly in the Sei Ulu Lanjai area.
Following a 2019 spatial audit by the Ministry of ATR/BPN, which identified 38 locations with suspected spatial violations in Batam, the city government prioritized enforcement actions against 9 locations within protected forest areas, including the BTM 36 location in Sei Ulu Lanjai.

The Batam City Government undertook various measures to rectify spatial misuse, including community education, installation of warning signs, and coordination with ATR/BPN and other relevant agencies. They also responded to a summons from the Prosecutor’s Office to testify in related legal proceedings.
The award received by the Batam City Government serves not only as recognition of their past efforts but also as motivation to continue providing exemplary service in law enforcement and spatial planning within the city.
The Batam Spatial Planning Forum conducts monthly coordination meetings to address urban planning challenges and showcase Batam’s proactive approach to urban management.
